Install Layertrail
Download the installer for your system from the download page. Every build is also listed on GitHub Releases, together with a SHA256SUMS.txt file for checking a download.
Supported platforms
Section titled “Supported platforms”During the alpha, Layertrail is officially supported on macOS 13 or newer on Apple silicon and on Windows x64. Builds for Intel Macs and for Linux are published too, but they are not officially supported: they come from the same release pipeline but aren’t tested on real hardware before a release. You’re welcome to use them, and to report problems you find.
Requires macOS 13 or newer. Pick the DMG that matches your Mac: arm64 for Apple silicon (M-series), or x64 for Intel (not officially supported). Not sure? Open the Apple menu → About This Mac; “Chip: Apple M…” means Apple silicon.
Open the DMG and drag Layertrail into Applications. The app inside is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens without a security override.
Windows
Section titled “Windows”Run the x64 installer (.exe). During the alpha the installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may show “Windows protected your PC”. Choose More info → Run anyway if the file came from the official releases page.
Linux (not officially supported)
Section titled “Linux (not officially supported)”Download the x64 AppImage, make it executable, and run it:
chmod +x Layertrail-*-linux-x86_64.AppImage./Layertrail-*-linux-x86_64.AppImageLayertrail uses Wayland by default. On an X11-only desktop, start it with --ozone-platform=x11.
Snapshots are stored with Git, so Layertrail needs git available on your system. Most Linux distributions and macOS with the Xcode command line tools already have it. On Windows, install Git for Windows.
