Archives
An archive is a single .layertrailarchive file that holds a project and everything needed to keep working with its history somewhere else.
Export
Section titled “Export”In an open project choose Archives → Export archive. The archive includes the current project (including edits not yet in a snapshot), every snapshot with its original dates, the history metadata, and recovery points. Exporting doesn’t create a snapshot or change the project. Save the archive outside the project folder.
Restore
Section titled “Restore”Choose Archives → Review archive from a project or the welcome screen. Layertrail verifies the archive first and shows the project name, archive date, and snapshot count. Restore into a new folder then creates a fresh Layertrail-restored-… folder. It never overwrites an existing folder, and if verification fails nothing is left behind.
The restored copy keeps the original project identity and node IDs: it’s the same project in a new place, not a fork.
What’s not included
Section titled “What’s not included”Search indexes and logs are rebuilt rather than archived. Session Undo/Redo, other files you put in the project folder, and any Git settings or branches you added by hand are left out.
Limits
Section titled “Limits”Archives are designed for typical projects, not huge repositories: up to 128 MB of project data and 2,000 files. Each file in the archive carries a SHA-256 checksum, which detects corruption but doesn’t prove who made the archive.
